Our Process

When Southwest Florida homeowners come to Building Performance Solutions, they’re ready for answers. They may have discomfort and humidity problems in their home, and they’re tired of paying contractors who don’t fix the problem. They might have a child who’s constantly sick, and after countless doctor appointments that went nowhere, they suspect mold in their home may be to blame. Or maybe they have chronic health and respiratory issues, and need better indoor air quality to live more comfortably.

We specialize in post-occupancy performance validation, HVAC system diagnostics, and large-scale failure investigations for high-performance and energy-efficient buildings.

As a third-party testing, consulting, and diagnostics team, we’re here to help you get to the bottom of your family’s problems and find a solution that fixes them. We:

Step 1: Intake Call

Every project we take on starts with an initial conversation. When you get in contact with Building Performance Solutions, you’ll never get an answering machine. We pick up the phone and take the time necessary to understand the problems your family is facing and how they’re affecting your lives.

We’re thorough, but most importantly, we listen. Everything from our conversation is saved in private notes so that we have all the information we need to address your home’s issues.

Step 2: Home Safety Assessment

After our call, we set up a time to do an initial inspection of your Sarasota area home. We call this our Home Safety Assessment. Every customer gets a completely custom approach, ensuring that your unique and specific problems are addressed.

We start with a general overview and visual inspection of the home. We use flashlights, infrared cameras, and moisture meters to identify areas of the residence that might be giving you trouble. Then, we use this information to develop a game plan on which specific tests to run so that we can provide the most accurate and effective evaluation.

Step 3: Custom Testing and Diagnostics

As a data-driven company, testing and diagnostics are the cornerstones of our work. Building science is complex, but we believe that decisions like these should never be based on assumptions. The data-backed insights our advanced testing provides help us draw more accurate conclusions about the problems in your home and lead to recommendations that actually address those problems.

We develop custom diagnostic plans that are tailored to your family’s concerns and have a wide selection of tests we can perform. Some of the most common tests we do in Southwest Florida include:

Step 4: In-Depth Report

Our reports are the best in the business and are truly what set us apart from other air quality, mold, and HVAC inspectors. They are color-coded for easy readability and contain two parts: one section written plainly for the homeowner, and one section written technically for the contractor.

These aren’t vague, one-page summaries. Our comprehensive reports detail our findings for you and outline protocols for contractors to follow. The goal of this thoroughness is to leave nothing up to question; you never have to play translator between us and a contractor, and they’re given the information they need to do the best job possible.

Step 5: Contractor Referral

We are strictly a third-party testing and diagnostics company. We don’t perform repairs and remediation, and we do not sell products. This gives our customers confidence that they’re getting transparent information, free from any conflicts of interest. Our role is simple: independent measurement and defensible conclusions.

That being said, we do have an extensive referral network of local contractors in Sarasota, Naples, Longboat Key, and other regions of Southwest Florida who can perform any necessary services. We have long histories with these professionals, and we are happy to connect you with them. Combined, our diagnostics and their workmanship will help you overcome any air quality, mold, or comfort challenges you’re facing in your home.
